Methodology
Topten.eu – Best Products of Europe – presents the most energy efficient television sets of Europe.
Technical criteria
Devices with new energy label
Since March 1st 2021, new Ecodesign Requirements Regulation and Energy Label are in effect (Regulation (EU) 2019/2021 and Regulation (EU) 2019/2013). The new energy label shows energy consumption for 1000h of operation in SDR mode and HDR mode. To be listed on Topten, the appliances with the new energy label must meet the following criteria:
- Energy Class E or better
- The data correspond to manufacturer specifications.
Order of presentation
Products are ranked according to their efficiency index. The order of presentation can be changed by clicking the tables’ headings.
Glossary
Model
Model designation of the base model.
Variants
Model designation of variations of the base model.
Electricity costs
According to the following assumptions:
- Useful life of the device: 10 years.
- Power consumption: 4 hours per day extrapolated with the values from the energy label (1000 hours), playing in HDR mode.
- Electricity tariff: 30 cents/kWh.
Screen diagonal
Diagonal of the visible screen in centimeters (cm). Is also often indicated in the store with inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm, for example: 102 cm = 40 inches).
Resolution
The designations Full HD and Ultra HD, respectively 4K stand for the resolution of the respective screen in pixels.
- Full HD (True HD and Full HD 1080p): resolution min. 1920 x 1080 pixels (horizontal x vertical).
- Ultra HD (4k): resolution 3840 x 2160 pixels (horizontal x vertical).
Power consumption per year (kWh)
Power consumption per year in kWh according to the energy label. The figure is based on the assumption that the device runs 1000 hours per year (listed separately for SDR mode and HDR mode). This corresponds to a daily runtime of approx. 2h 45min.
Efficiency index and energy class
In accordance with the Ecodesign requirements and the energy label (Regulation (EU) 2019/2021 and Regulation (EU) 2019/2013). The efficiency index indicates the ratio of the annual energy consumption of the device to the standard consumption of a typical, comparable model of the same size in SDR mode. The smaller the value, the better the energy efficiency of the device. The efficiency index determines the energy class, which is shown in colour on the product image.
Energy class (HDR) indicates the energy class for HDR mode.
